Chapter 20

“Back Like I Never Left”

Live Wire stood and looked at Wolf for a long moment before he broke the silence. “What’s good bro? Long time no see.”

“I need your help,” Wolf told him. He stood with a hoodie over his head, with his hands down in the pockets, and his hands resting on twin .45’s.

“I heard what Pauleena did to your little one,” Live Wire said in a sad tone. “Why didn’t you come to me sooner? I mean I know we weren’t fucking with each other but we’re still family,” he said stepping to the side so Wolf could enter.

“Sorry for just popping up like this.”

“How did you find out where I was anyway?” Live Wire asked.

“I stopped by your old crib and just as I was about to leave, I saw Sparkle pulling into the driveway.” Wolf smirked. “She gave me an ear full before finally telling me that you were over here with some new shorty.”

Soon as the words left Wolf’s mouth, Nikki emerged from upstairs covered in a black silk robe. “Baby is everything alright?” Nikki asked in a concerned tone. Instantly she recognized the man in the hoodie from seeing his picture all over the news about a year ago. All they talked about on the news was how dangerous this man was and now there he was standing in her living room.

“Yeah baby, let me introduce you to somebody,” Live Wire said. “Baby this is my brother Wolf and Wolf this is my baby Nikki.”

“Nice to meet you Wolf,” Nikki said smiling and then turned and faced Live Wire. “Can I have a word with you for a second?”

Once the two were out of ear shot, Nikki spoke in a hushed tone. “Um what is he doing here?”

“That’s my brother! What you mean?”

“I saw that guys picture all over the news about a year ago talking about he was armed and very dangerous,” Nikki said.

“The news be lying,” Live Wire said with a smile.

“This is not funny.”

“I’ve been knowing Wolf since we were young thugs just running the streets,” Live Wire told her. “If he’s here because he needs my help, I’m going to help him.”

“But I’m scared!” Nikki admitted. The man with the hoodie covering his head scared her and something about him just screamed trouble. “I’m scared he’s going to get you killed by getting you mixed up in his mess.”

“Baby…” Live Wire said in a pleading tone. “You’re thinking too much.”

Nikki shook her head. “He’s wearing a hoodie in the summer time, but I’m thinking too much?”

Live Wire laughed, but on the inside he knew everything that Nikki was telling him was the truth, but at the same time he couldn’t just turn his back on Wolf.

“Just promise me you’ll be careful,” Nikki said with her mouth, but her eyes said that she wished that Live Wire would just tell his friend to leave.

“I got you.”

“I’ll be upstairs if you need me.” Nikki kissed Live Wire on the lips and then disappeared upstairs.
